Some of the world’s top rock and pop acts are jostling to make history by becoming the first to perform at the new Wembley Stadium, London when it opens next year, according to developers.
Rod is the latest to put his name down and joins a list which already includes the Rolling Stones, U2 and Robbie Williams, a Wembley spokesman said.
He said they were looking at pencilling in dates. The stadium is due to be completed in January 2006 and the first high-profile sports event will be the FA Cup final in May.
