Rod’s new album ‘Thanks For The Memory: The Great American Songbook Volume 4’ has entered the UK charts this week at No.3 on sales of 48,949. This is some 40% ahead of last year’s album which also entered at No. 3 but on considerably less first week sales of 34,117.
All four of Rod’s Great American Songbook albums have now made the UK Top 10. The first edition released in 2002 reached No. 8, with the follow up making No. 4 and volume three peaking at No.3. All three have been awarded platinum discs in the UK in recognition of sales over 300,000 and are well on the way to double platinum status! ‘It Had To Be You’ has sold 586,304 copies in the UK, ‘As Time Goes By’ stands at 564,465, whilst last years ‘Stardust’ has so far shifted 479,057 copies.
‘Thanks For The Memory’ has ensured that Rod’s brilliant track record on the UK album charts continues. In the 34 years since he first hit the UK Top 10 with the No. 1 album ‘Every Picture Tells A Story’ all but one album of new material has made the Top 10. In addition, Rod has placed six greatest hit packages and two live albums in the Top 10.
Meanwhile Rod was featured in the Top 50 chart of the biggest selling album artists of the century so far beating all old time rivals such as Elton John, The Rolling Stones and David Bowie all of who failed to make the chart.
