Clive doesn’t call all the shots

Rod wont record stupid pop songs..

Rod has said he doesn’t always agree with record label boss Clive Davis. When it was suggested Rod cover Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, the reply was a resounding no.

Rod said: “That’s a really stupid pop song. You have to be careful which songs you pick. It’s easy to offend your fans with some unsuitable cover version.

“Clive wanted me to record Dancing In The Dark by Bruce Springsteen. I asked him: ‘Why? I couldn’t do it better than the original.’

“All great artists, Bob Dylan or Van Morrison, are no great singers in technical terms but they have a very special, unique voice. That’s what matters.”
