(August 26, 2010 – New York, NY) Back by popular demand, J Records recording artist Rod Stewartâs chart-topping, multi-platinum, and Grammy Award-winning The Great American Songbook series will add a fifth title to the collection with the release of FLY ME TO THE MOON âŚTHE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK, VOLUME V due to arrive in stores on October 19th. Reuniting Rod with his longtime collaborators Richard Perry and Clive Davis, FLY ME TO THE MOONâŚTHE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK, VOLUME V was produced by Richard Perry and was co-produced by Rod Stewart, Clive Davis and Lauren Wild. FLY ME TO THE MOONâŚTHE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK, VOLUME V is the next chapter of the Grammy-Award winning Great American Songbook series which has enjoyed unprecedented success as the biggest selling ongoing series of new music recordings in history, with over seventeen million copies worldwide. With an estimated 250 million in album and single sales, Rod Stewart is indisputably one of the most successful musical performers of all time.
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy⢠Living Legend Rod Stewart has been lauded as having one of the most distinctive and interpretive voices in musical history. ON FLY ME TO THE MOON⌠VOLUME V, Rod infuses his incomparable vocal style into 12 iconic standards written by the great Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Henry Mancini, and many others, including âThat Old Blackâ Magic, âBeyond the Sea,â âWhat a Difference a Day Makes,â âIâve Got You Under My Skin,â âI Get A Kick Out of You,â and many more. FLY ME TO THE MOONâŚVOLUME V is Rodâs most danceable Songbook yet! (See below for a final track listing.)
Clive Davis, Chief Creative Officer, Sony Music Entertainment and a producer of Rodâs Songbook series states âVolume V is so fresh and Rod has never sounded better, delivering one great classic after another. This album introduces a brand new element to the Songbook phenomenon: you canât stop dancing to it. Dinner parties all over the world will never be the same.â
Comments Rod Stewart, âA couple of years ago, I had the good fortune to befriend an American GI who had served in World War II and had been actively involved in the D-Day landings. He said in a broad, Brooklyn accent, and here I quote, âRawwwd, when are you gonna be doin’ some of them old songs again ’cause you make them sound brand new.â That was all the inspiration I needed. Thank you sir and God bless you. Here’s Number 5.â
FLY ME TO THE MOONâŚVolume V marks Rod Stewartâs return to The Great American Songbook album series. All four of the previous Songbooks were massive Billboard Album Chart toppers: Thanks For The Memory âŚVolume IV (2005) entered the Billboard album chart at #2; 2004 saw the release of Stardust, Rod Stewartâs first ever #1 debut on the Billboard album chart, and earned Rod the first Grammy of his career. As Billboard noted, Stardust also placed Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee and Grammy Living Legend Rod Stewart in the extremely rare company of veterans with more than two decades between #1 albums. The first two albums of The Great American Songbook series, It Had To Be YouâŚthe first Songbook album (released October 2002) entered the Billboard Top 200 at #4 and As Time Goes ByâŚVolume II (released October 2003) debuted at #2 on the Top 200. The first three albums of the Songbook series were all Grammy nominated in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category and all have been certified RIAA platinum in the US with worldwide sales in excess of 17 million copies. During the five year break between Songbook albums, Rod took a couple of genre detours – he released his first rock album in 8 years entitled Still the SameâŚGreat Rock Classics of our Time, which entered the Billboard album chart at #1 in 2006 and Soulbook, a collection of classic Sixties/Seventies-era soul favorites in 2009 which debuted at #4.
Rod Stewart has just wrapped up a âBoxscore,â chart-topping, 33 date European summer tour which enjoyed the biggest concert gross to date this year abroad, including 4 sold out dates at Londonâs O2 Arena, one of Europeâs biggest venues.
