It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Martin Baker passed away last night.
Martin was an active SMILER from day one and will be greatly missed by everyone here,
Neal has written a short memorial on behalf of us all at SMILER.
Last night we lost one of our finest.
Martin went to sleep peacefully surrounded by his Family with Rod playing in the background.
His brave fight against cancer has finally come to an end. His pain has gone.
Martin was one of us. One of our Rod family!
A much loved face at Rod gigs and Smiler events, with love and laughter always on the menu.
His cheeky northern charm mocking us ‘cockney geezers’. It was a privilege to be in his company.
The good times with Martin were many. One of the last times I saw Martin was at Rods Hyde Park gig in London and we were buzzing. Rod played that once in a lifetime set and I’m so glad so many of us were there to share it with him.
Martin created memories for us and those we will hold dear for ever. I know he will always be with us at future Smiler parties and Rod gigs for ever.
Sleep well dear Brother Martin and see you in that bar one day.
