The night got off to a bad start there were no taxis from the hotel we were staying at, when we finally did get one after an hour the Ipswich DJ on the cab radio mentioned Rod will on stage at 9pm so we got the taxi to drop us at the nearest bar to portland Road, a few drinks later we made our way to the stadium, while we were having a beer with some friends my Mrs heard Rod dedicating his performance of Some Guys Have All the Luck to the “wonderful life” he has had, this was at 8pm!, As he was starting to sing Some Guys we raced to our seats …it was a bit of a shambles as none of the Stewards knew the seating numbers so it took a while…but we easily could have missed an hour thanks to that DJ!.
The set was great and Rod was in great voice highlights were Grace from the new album and the long encore Baby Jane, The heavens opened with a heavy downpour but the rain didn’t dampen the spirits of either Rod or the crowd as he performed all the hits, Rod even gave a little hope to the Ipswich Town fans in the crowd saying “Ipswich are down at the moment, but you’ll be back up.” And later he wished them all the best in League One, saying: “There are two things you can’t change – your mum and the football team you support.”
All in all one of the best Rod concerts i’ve seen since ’76….All booked up for the 02 Dec 19th!.
