Langan’s The Book By Richard Young

Rod is also featured in this great new book…

In time for the re-opening of the most iconic restaurant in the world, Richard Young, master celebrity photographer, announces his latest book: Langan’s, documenting his years as uniquely trusted insider and friend to the stars who frequented the world-famous Mayfair brasserie.

Full of the glamour and gossip of the time, the book tells a visual story of the global celebrities from the world of film, art, fashion, music and sport – the good, the bad and the beautiful – who dined at this most remarkable restaurant and made it their playground for over three decades.

With an introduction from the original founders, Richard Shepherd and Michael Caine, along with the story of how the inimitable Peter Langan, the original rogue, rose and (repeatedly) fell within its walls, Richard Young’s candid photographer’s eye captures the unguarded moments – both elegant and decadent, often both, but always fun – of those years.

Menopause Rally October 29th

Penny with Debbie Baisden

Penny joined Campaigners last Friday who celebrated the Government’s pledge to act to help break the menopause taboo at a rally outside Parliament, MPs and TV personalities including Davina McCall, and Mariella Frostrup were among the crowd in Parliament Square, They cheered the Government’s announcement that the cost of repeat prescriptions for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for those experiencing symptoms of the menopause in England will be significantly reduced.

Penny was later featured in an emotional clip on the ITV News saying Boris Johnson will be “regretting the day” he never gave women menopause treatment for free, and said she welcomed the government’s move to cut the cost of repeat prescriptions for hormone replacement therapy in England, but asked: “Why not just give it to women for free?”

One lady who took a selfie with Penny at the rally was Debbie Baisden who told SMILER this week “When I met up with the stunning Penny Lancaster I told her all about my alter ego. Dolly Slatemen who is also a pub landlady runs the Mankey Bush (That’s a little name the regulars come up with) She is besotted with Sir Rod Stewart and is partial to a Rod Stewart lookie likie and has persuaded herself there was a night she ended up with real one”

SMILER told Debbie that Dolly will definitely be on the guest list for our next SMILER TARTAN Party!

And Finally…

Gisela and the auctioned painting

Gisela Hammer, From Germany auctioned one of her great painting of Rod for charity, Speaking to SMILER this week Gisela told the story

Some years ago I had the idea to portray the musicians who’s music I liked very much and who accompanied me since I was young. And Rod Stewart is one of them. Additionally it was important, that these musicians have a unique characteristic. For example, Sting or Eric Clapton I like very much, too. But in my expressive spontaneous style with strong brushstrokes it is difficult to portray them. But Rod is perfect!
I portrayed also for example Jimi Hendrix, Grace Jones, Syd Barrett, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Bob Marley, Frank Zappa and some others.

Perhaps you heard, in the summer there was a horrible flood in Germany with many deaths, thousands of destroyed houses and a totally destroyed infrastructure. This inspired me to give one of my works to a Charity auction. I don’t know why, it was my intention, I chose this Rod Stewart Portrait. As in its style and expression it’s so unique I thought, this will be an eyecatcher in this online auction. And with the result it brought, I am super happy. The whole amount goes to “Sternstunden” its a charity institution in Bavaria and helps children with many projects in Germany but also all over the world.

The man, who auctioned the work up to now I do not know. But for sure he is a Rod Stewart Fan! Perhaps another day I will get in contact with him. Then, of course, I will let know it to you.

Rod-Still available

But the best news is: I still have another portrait of Rod Stewart! [pictured above] that is still available, Would be great, if it could get a new home in the house of one of the Rod Stewart Fans in your homepage! This portrait is 80 x 60 cm, acrylics on canvas.
