This week’s Rod Art

This weeks Rod art is an individual piece of vintage vinyl art by Dan Tolhurst featuring Rod Stewarts’ 1971 album Every Picture Tells a Story cut to the silhouette of the iconic singer. Mounted within a black wooden box frame with pearlescent white base. The frame measures 25cm x 25cm (9.5 x 9.5 inches).

Every Picture Tells A Story

Dan says all his vinyl is sourced from old, scratched or warped copies that have no collectable value or are in playable condition. and other album titles available upon request.

Speaking to SMILER this week Dan explained what inspired his Rod vinyl artwork “I got into Rod and the Faces after growing up listening to bands like The Black Crowes and The Quireboys and they turned me on to that classic 70s era Rod Stewart. The bands I was listening to were covering the likes of ‘Glad and Sorry’, ‘Stay with Me’ and ‘Miss Judy’s Farm’ and I thought to myself, I’ve got to start listening to original stuff. And that’s where my love of Rod Stewart’s music grew from. So it stands to reason, that when I started my vinyl art business I would start creating the artist I love. ‘Every Picture Tells A Story’ is my favourite Rod album, every track is a classic. This still gets regularly played at home on my record player – although, not the ones I’ve shaped to make my art – they tend to jump a bit!”

Celtic forever 🍀

On Sunday afternoon after seeing Celtic beat Rangers 2-1 at Ibrox to go 6 points clear in the title race Rod posted a Stewart family shot titled Celtic forever 🍀

We never stop

Hard Rock Cafe Memorabilia #2

This week we go to to the US and the Phoenix Arizona branch where Leroy Gutierrez took this shot of Rod’s jacket that he wore on stage for a special performance for Princess Diana.

Leroy took the photo for his Mom in 2018 and told SMILER “Mom would dance and sing with Rod when he would come on over the radio. Great memories”.

Phoenix Arizona

Have you ever spotted a Rod item in a Hard Rock Cafe while you were visiting?..If you have send it in to [email protected] and tell us about it and I will post them in future ‘This week’s news and gossip’ posts.

Rod tips the pap

The Daily Express reported that Rod handed photographer Tim McLees a £20 note after a night out with Penny at swanky club Oswald’s in Mayfair on Wednesday because he thought Tim was homeless.

Instagram

Posting on Instagram Tim Said “Now the @dailyexpress are finally printing proper news, And just to clarify… he mistook me for a the doorman … not a homeless man”

They also reported how Sir Rod and Penny shared a kiss at the back of their car before dashing home.

And Finally..Responding to the scum

The response to the disgusting morons who were making personal attacks on Rod that we posted in the news section last week was a bit disappointing, but here is one great post from ‘Ball Trap’ I hope ‘Ball Trap’ is a SMILER member!

I have to wonder if these rather unpleasant people are just sick in the head or suffering some kind of mental breakdown. What other excuse can there be for this prolonged and un-necessary attack on a 77 year-old who has spent his entire life making millions happy with his music? If this was supposed to be comedy, then it failed… this was the kind of playground stuff popular with 12 year old boys who are obsessed with private parts. Pathetic, yes, but more significantly, spiteful, full of hate and ageist. Had they decided to focus on someone’s race or sexuality they would have been in trouble. It seems hatred towards older people is okay.

What does it take to be reduced to stooping to these low levels in the hope of getting a laugh. What happened to these people in their lives to make them so twisted? What must their parents, grandparents and friends think? And the woman, particularly rancid and hate-filled, claims to have reproduced! I wonder what her daughter thinks of her participation in this? I certainly would not want her as my mother! She would like to raise funds to send Sir Rod off for assisted suicide. She accuses Rod of inappropriate behaviour, probably libellous, at least disgusting and ill-informed.

One of you was boasting about being paid for this dribble. Meanwhile Sir Rod earns more in one evening than what you are likely to ever earn in your lifetime. He is regularly paid $2.7million PER PERFORMANCE when he plays Las Vegas. In 2022 he continues to play arenas and stadiums all over the World. He holds the World record for concert attendance – 3.5million people at one show in Rio. He lives a life more full in one month than you probably do in a year – at 77 he still clubs, he eats out in the best restaurants, he travels the world, he parties, he lives his hobby and loves it. He has houses in LA, London, Miami, Ireland, France, Essex, Spain. His children adore him. He has been with the same woman for 24 years, and his two ex-wives and the mother of one of his children think so much of him that they sometimes stay with him at Christmas. He has been made Sir Rod for his services to music and to charity. Most of his charity work is carried out quietly outside of the spotlight.

Hercules isn’t his finest album – I will give you that. It’s his 31st solo studio album, not 32nd. But add the the six albums he made with the Jeff Beck Group and the Faces and that’s 37 albums. All of them have been hits in major markets all over the World. Had Rod never made another album after 1977 it would not have mattered because his fourteen albums up to that point were so flawless, so full of passion, soul, humour and wit that that he has earned the right to record what he wants.

I’m biased. I’ve been a fan for over 50 years. Rod Stewart’s music has given me more pleasure over the years than any other artist. What have you people ever done? By comparison you don’t matter, you are insignificant. It must be horrible being you.

Still time for the ‘Rod Family’ give them some stick if like us you took the comments personally.
