Sirromet Wines Mount Cotton, Saturday

Saturday was the first of two shows at Sirromet Wines Mount Cotton,

Rod sang a stunning version of Tom Traubert’s Blues (Waltzing Matilda) in the set, the first time Rod has sang it live since The 2015 Hyde Park set.

Harmonic Melbourne siblings DACY opened the show last night and again tonight and went down well with the Rod crowd.

Speaking to SMILER this week DACY told us “Sir Rod Stewart completely blew us away. We were in awe watching his set. He really is one of the greatest to ever do it.

We are just so grateful to be apart of this lineup. To have our name on the bill with him is such a honour. These shows have been the biggest and best shows of our lives. We’ve learnt so much already and we can’t wait for the rest of the tour!

We also hope it didn’t have to end. We could watch his set every night.”

Sydney Qudos Bank Arena

On Wednesday The band played the show in Sydney and Rod enjoyed a day out with his son Alastair at The Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney and Penny shared a snap of herself cuddling up to an adorable koala while visiting The Sydney Zoo at Eastern Creek

Meanwhile Rod shocked the staff at a model train store in Western Sydney by making a surprise visit, He dropped into the Woodpecker Model Railways shop in Pendle Hill and bought some American cars for his layout.

Speaking to SMILER on Wednesday Jodie from Woodpecker Model Railways said “We are overwhelmed with the response we have gotten from our photo as you can imagine, our shop is a small family business and to have someone like Rod Stewart walk into our shop was unbelievable we were lucky enough to see him in concert and it was amazing” https://www.facebook.com/woodpeckermodelrailways/

Mt Duneed Estate Waurn Ponds

Earlier today the Geelong crowd finally got to see Rod after the show was rescheduled before the event 3AW Melbourne’s Ross Stevenson got an exclusive interview with Rod

One unusual thing that happened at the show was a lady called Aimee held a sign up asking Rod to let her sing with him on Stay With Me. So someone from Rods crew got her up on stage and she got to do her duet..more on this show next week!

Speaking to SMILER last Friday Emily said “My mum and I are huge fans of his and are going to his concert tomorrow in Brisbane Australia and this year I am painting outfits for every concert I go to, so I thought why not?! ..Trying to get noticed and gift them to him 🤞🏼🥰”

Description
What made Long John Baldry stand out from the British R&B singers in the mid-sixties was the width and depth of his knowledge of the blues. He’d been knocking around the Soho folk, jazz and skiffle scene since 1955, when as a fourteen-year-old, he first taught himself to play Leadbelly numbers on the guitar. He worked with all the greats of early British R&B: Alexis Korner, Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, Davey Graham, Cyril Davies, before becoming a frontman himself.

Over 46 fine sounding tracks – mostly recorded for BBC radio – we explore the broadcast material of the first groups led by Baldry; the R&B / Soul review that was Steampacket, where he shared vocal duties with Rod Stewart and Julie Driscoll and the Jazz ‘n‘ Blues of the Hoochie Coochie Men and Bluesology (featuring Elton John on piano). John loved to perform and this album captures him live in what was the most significant part of his career. And he doesn’t disappoint.

Artist Tim Jeffs has sent us another update on our SMILER Rod statue and it is really coming on

Tim told us this week “Lots more to do bulking up and then adding detail” So don’t worry Yve Paige his hair is not finished yet!

Some SMILER’s Have All The Luck

Some of the SMILER team attended the Some Guy’s Have All The Luck ‘The Rod Stewart Story‘ when the show hit Stockport on Thursday, It was a fun packed night from start to end and we loved meeting many SMILER members [most for the first time] before and after the show in the world famous Chestergate pub that is currently going viral on the internet https://www.facebook.com/chestergatepub A trip to Stockport is not complete without a trip to this pub!

The new improved show was as always excellent and it was great to see a couple more Faces songs included in the show, the Stockport crowd were rocking from the start and after Paul introduced SMILER The Rod Stewart Fan Club some joined him on stage for You’re In My Heart!
