Rod ended last week working with photographer David Clerihew, David had a photo taken with Rod and said ‘I had to do this!have had this manās songs in my head since I was a wee lad growing up in Scotland, proper Scottish icon’.
The ‘Auld Enemy’
On Tuesday Hampden park in Glasgow hosted a friendly to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first meeting between Scotland and England and Rod was there to cheer on the scots
Before the match Rod told Tam Cowan he thought Scotland would hump England 3-0, And he also offered to record the official anthem for the 2024 Euro Finals in Germany. [Watch for Tam’s exclusive interview with Rod in tomorrows Daily Record]
Unfortunatly for Rod by half time Scotland were 2-0 down
And despite England’s Harry Maguire trying to help by scoring an own goal in the second half scotland lost 1-3
While at Hampden Rod met David Tanner from talkSPORT who you will remember did the infamous Scottish Cup draw with Rod
David told SMILER “Always a thrill to meet Rod. First time Iāve seen him since our famous Scottish Cup draw in my Sky Sports days!
I first met him during the 1985 Scotland v England game when I climed into the stand to get him to sign my ticket stub for my mum – she still has it!”
John McLaughlin was also at the match and later was joined by Rod to plug the Bay City Rollers gig in Carlisle, As Rod said “I Love the Bay City Rollers, tartan forever!”
Wolfie’s USA
While Rod was back in the UK Wolfie’s Whisky started arriving to fans in America
And it was great to see a few SMILER members getting signed bottles, On recieving hers, Iris L. Alexander said “Omgosh Omgosh Omgosh“
Cheryl Hudgins Ogle joked “To be very clear – this is enough whisky to last me a lifetime. I will enjoy the occasional Irish Coffee but mostly just prefer a good iced tea. I ordered because, well, Rod. Duh”
Irene Kinsella-Bynum said she was “Thrilled that one of the two bottles I ordered was signed ! One to keep, one to drink !”
And one lucky lady not only got a signed bottle but a flight case as well
Cyndi Lauper will just want to have fun this this..Time after time!
