Rod’s Hair makes the news

Following Rod’s age defying appearance at FireAid leading hair experts were giving their opinions on Rod’s hair

The Daily Mail reported that It was thought Rod has long been a client at London based salon Steven Carey salon in Mayfair, with his chauffeur-driven car regularly spotted pulling up at the salon’s doors. A full set of highlights at the salon on Maddox Street costs around £220 a pop, with Rod likely to need his high-maintenance do tended to at least every six weeks, with three hours in the chair a likelihood.

Jason Hogan, Creative Master at expert colourists Josh Wood Atelier. told MailOnline that it’s clear that Rod has a hairdresser tending to his tresses regularly. ‘Rod obviously has his hair cut regularly to maintain his signature style. When he was younger he probably had highlights regularly to maintain his colour.

Now, he probably has more white hair, he may uses a mixture of permanent hair colour as well highlights that allow him to achieve that blonde look without having to use so much bleach on hair.’

Anabel Kingsley, Brand President and Consultant Trichologist at Philip Kingsley, which has hair and scalp clinics in London and New York, says it’s clear both genes and good care have played a park in Rod’s look.

She told The Mail: ‘Rod’s hair is thick and long, and he has had blonde highlights throughout his career, with a few different haircuts such as a mullet, shaggy cut and a fringe.

‘His iconic hair has stood the test of time, and therefore he must be looking after his strands by keeping his hair healthy, clean and preventing damage (as well as some great genetics!).’ Kingsley suggests he clearly uses the right products to counter the drying effects of the perpetual highlights.

Explaining: ‘Hair that is chemically treated (bleach) may be more porous and therefore susceptible to damage.

It is important to keep hair hydrated and even more so if you colour your hair often – like Rod – so restorative products such as the Philip Kinglsey Elasticizer will put strength and hydration back into your hair, reducing breakage and returning elasticity.’

The Mail expert added ‘As well as highlights, it seems that Rod uses products to style his hair (such as salt sprays or gel).

If like Rod, you’re using styling products, it is very important to use a clarifying shampoo and wash hair thoroughly so there is no product build up on the scalp, and wash hair as frequently as possible to keep the scalp healthy – a healthy scalp equals healthy hair.’

Rod’s bouquet

At the end of the service, there was a lovely touch as the congregation heard a recording of the song ‘Angel’ – the 1974 duet with Law and Sir Rod who also sent a funeral bouquet with the note summing up the grief of generations of Manchester United and City fans as they said goodbye to Denis: “You are, and always will be, my footballing hero.”

Champions League

On Wednesday it was another big Champions league night at Celtic Park as Celtic took on the favourites to win the trophy Germany’s Bayern Munich

Rod took part in a couple of pitch side interviews before the match, first up was CBS with studio hosts Kate Scott, Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, and Micah Richards and it wasn’t long before he had the hosts in fits of laughter.

Rod joined Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel whose son Kasper is the Celtic keeper, and after being serenaded with a version of Maggie May by a thrilled Carragher, Rod went on to reveal that “I’ve had a couple” before the game.

Rod jokingly told the stadium announcers to “shut up” so he could speak, And didn’t know who Micah Richards was – calling him ‘Big Knees’ instead of Big Meeks and then “Micah Thing” – He had the hosts laughing away before jokingly winding up Peter, who was trying to keep the interview going by referring to him as Gordon Banks, when asked how he thought the game would go he said “As long as we stay in the competition, as long as we don’t get humped tonight.”

Jamie Carragher also went on to say he had previously met Rod and his son Aiden at a charity event and that his mum was Sir Rod’s biggest fan and that she used to have a framed picture of him in a Celtic kit in her house instead of Jamie in his Liverpool top, SMILER readers will remember Jamie’s Mum Paula did the SMILER review of the charity night in issue 101 of our magazine.

Then it was the turn of TNT Sport when Rod joined Emma Dodds, Owen Hargreaves and ex Celtic star Stiliyan Petrov on the pitch

He started out by saying: “I’ve had a couple of drinks as you can probably tell, wahey.”

Showing his passion, Rod explained how Celtic was the rhythm of his heart as the club was in his blood.

Rod then burst out into a dance for the crowd as his TNT interview wound down.

However, it did at first seem he had taken the microphone with him, with Emma saying: “He’s taken the mic,” before he handed it to a producer in the background before going over to the crowd to sign autographs.

Rod also met Harriet Rozanski who is a lifelong fan and suffers from vascular dementia

Harriet has been at the New Stobhill Hospital in Glasgow for more than a year where her bed is decorated with pictures of Rod, Staff at New Stobhill wanted to do something special for Harriet. They initially tried to organise a video message from Rod, but thanks to the incredible support from the Celtic FC Foundation and Rod, Harriet was invited to enjoy a night’s hospitality at Celtic Park and meet her idol in person.

The night was not a perfect one for Celtic as the Scottish champions went down 2-1 despite a late rally that must have brought them confidence for the away leg next week.

Rod who was sat next to ex Celtic manager Gordon Strachen said he couldn’t make the second leg in Munich as he’ll be on tour in Atlantic City, but confirmed his son Alastair was going.

PP Arnold

PP Arnold has had another swipe at Rod while reflecting on her time with him, saying their version of Wilson Pickett’s Come Home Baby was shelved by Sir Mick Jagger in 1967, due to Rod’s apparent difficult ways.

Speaking to The Times, she said: “Nightmare! Rod is very difficult to work with, he wanted it his way or no way. As soon as I started sounding good, he wanted to change the key. Mick [who produced the track] just got p****d off and that’s why the track was never released.”

In her memoir Soul Survivor, released in 2022, she branded Rod “selfish and tight”. The following year, PP claimed she and Rod had a close brush with the law during the 1960s. “Rod Stewart and I had a close call back in the 60s when a nosy landlord, on suspicion of drug possession, let the police into my flat,” she told The Guardian.

Pictured above is PP with her copy of SMILER and it has to said she didn’t say anything bad about Rod that night.

talkSPORT

This morning [Friday] Rod phoned Alan Brazil on talkSPORT. he was asked about the appearance before the big Celtic Champions League clash, and said: “I did warn them beforehand I was in a very, very jolly mood. But you know, I got some great feedback from it. It made everybody laugh.”

They also talked about rivals Rangers as fellow Celtic fan Brazil brought up the Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Queen’s Park last weekend. Rod said: “I know when that lovely guy (Queen’s Park goalkeeper Calum Ferrie) saved a penalty me and my son danced around the room, jumped over his sofa, went absolutely beserk!

“But listen, and I’ve said this, we need a strong Rangers, we need the competition, we need a stong Hibs, Hearts, anybody you know because it’s beginning to be absolutely to watch Celtic now. It’s so easy for them so we need some strength up there in opposition.”
