Rod has recovered from the sore throat which caused him to cancel his Dublin concert and postpone a Glasgow show. Tonight’s show at the SECC will go ahead!

In an exclusive statement issued to Smiler, Annie Challis from Rod’s management team said: “It has been terribly upsetting to Rod to have to cancel. On Wednesday evening he felt as though he had a scratchy throat, so had some throat srays and went to bed early. When he woke up he had a awful sore throat so we drove straight to London to the throat doctor who looked and saw large white spots of infection, told him he wouldn’t be able to sing and gave him antibiotics and throat sprays. So we had to cancel that night in Dublin. We had all hoped that a miracel might happen and that he would be alright for the next day in Dublin which was the only date left available at Lansdowne Road as they are about to re-seed the pitch.

A doctor came to the house that evening and he said the chances would be slim of him singing. When Rod woke up on Friday he felt and sounded worse. So we saw the doctor again who told him he had to have fourty-eight hours without talking or singing and various medications. So that is what we have done.

As Lansdowne Road was unavailable, we tried to book a week at the Point instead, but there are no dates available there. We are tyring everything possible to re-schedule the date in Dublin even if it means doing it this time next year, so we are waiting for available dates then.

As I said, Rod is absolutely devasted for the people who had gone there to see him and was really looking forward to it.

It is such a shame as we have been touring for over a year with no health cancellations, and now this.”
