Rod Stewart Inks Deal With J Records
Rod Stewart has signed to J Records in a worldwide, multi-album deal to be announced today (Feb. 21), Billboard Bulletin reports. Stewart left the WEA family last November after 25 years. “J is where I wanted to be and, for me, it’s a dream come true working with Clive [Davis],” the artist tells Bulletin. “I’m over the moon about the whole thing.” Stewart’s next album is due in October.
According to manager Arnold Stiefel, Stewart’s last best-of collection, issued in November on Warner Bros. as a one-disc set in the U.S. and a double disc elsewhere, has sold 2 million units worldwide. His last album of new material, “Human,” released last year on Atlantic, peaked at No. 50 on The Billboard 200.
Stewart will hope J can revitalize his career as it did with veteran R&B vocalist Luther Vandross, who scored his best opening-week sales in a decade with his self-titled label bow last summer.
