Rod’s fiancee Penny Lancaster wore a full length nightie the first time they spent the night together.
In their first interview as a couple, Penny told how Rod took her to a friend’s house in Spain a month after they started seeing each other.
She added: ‘His friend said: ‘This is your room’. I saw this big four-poster double bed, and said, ‘For the two of us? And he said yes.
I thought, ‘Oh God, lucky I’ve brought a full-length nightie. I thought I’d have my own room but he might venture in. We ended up sharing the same bed, but we didn’t do anything.’
Rod added: ‘You have to have respect.’
Penny also revealed that the couple dated for four months before having sex.
Explaining how Rod phoned and asked to meet her, Penny said: ‘I didn’t really know who he was. Mum and Dad did. I just thought he was a guy in tight leopard-skin trousers. I went along thinking maybe we could be friends. But it moved on to the next stage, about four months later.’
The couple, who got engaged on Valentine’s Day, would not say if they were planning a family, but 34 year-old Penny confessed she has always wanted to be a mum.
She said: ‘What will be will be, only time will tell.
Sure, one day, I’ve always wanted a baby, but we’re happy the way we are, and we’ve both got busy lives.’
She added: ‘Rod is great with kids, they keep you young don’t they?’
Rod, who turned 60 in January, said: ‘We’ve thought about it but I’ll have to see how much I’ve got saved up in the Post Office.’
He added: ‘Pen and I have been having too much fun as a couple. We are happy together, just the two of us.
We enjoy each other’s company, we never get bored.
That’s the marvellous thing about being in love – you’re always finding out something new about each other.’
Twice-married Rod, who had famously vowed never to wed again, proposed to model Penny on Valentine’s Day at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The romantic rocker got down on one knee and presented his girlfriend of five years with a £20,000 diamond ring.
He said: ‘I left it this long to propose because I want to get it right this time. I’ve never been happier and more in love than I am today.’
