I hope this team stays together

Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam, Netherlands 12/5/2019 Review By Vincent Bakker with Photos By Hendrik Mulder

Rod was clearly up for this concert and played all the hits at The Ziggo Dome with his still flawless [Well maybe not flawless ..but the flaws only add to the charm] legendary voice. “We’re going to play 23 songs tonight, count them” said Rod..

Rod also had a lot going on around him The whole stage is now full of of video screens, featuring many old photos and album covers plus much more, And the large band that features a couple of new personnel since his last visit to Ziggo Dome filled in well when Rod left the stage.. from tap dancing backing vocalists to instrumentals of Dire Straits a Fleetwood Mac song and a drum solo.

A couple of times Rod showed his love of football and gave our local heroes Ajax a shout out saying “I love football and I love Ajax,” adding “I hope this team stays together.” Later in the show he showed a photo of the partying Ajax on his big screens.that pleased the home crowd. the last time Rod played The Ziggo Dome he kicked out loads of footballs himself but has now got a launching machine to do most of the work for him..at least some guys in the cheap seats got to take home balls!

The only low point for me personally was only one new song from ‘Blood Red Roses’ the latest single ‘Hole In My Heart’
but you can’t have everything.

Rod closed the set with his disco party anthem ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy’ and ‘Baby Jane’ so the Amsterdam crowd left the Dome after been treated to a party nostalgic night with Rod….and his own team of champions.. the band.
