Rod Stewart, Robin Williams and Sarah McLachlan played a private party in West Vancouver, Canada on Sunday night (Jan 30th) to raise money for victims of the Asian tsunami, and raised a staggering $1.75 million from only 150 people in attendance.
Bill Clinton couldn’t make it, but he sent a personalized, taped address to the party-goers, who included hockey greats Wayne Gretzky and Brett Hull, and Premier Gordon Campbell and his wife, Nancy.
Tickets were $5,000 apiece, but many people gave more, resulting in a net take of closer to $12,000 per head.
Rock manager Sam Feldman, who helped arrange the party, said the total raised was $1.75 million.
“It was really something,” he said. “I don’t think Vancouver’s ever seen anything like it, or will see anything like this for a long time.”
