Legendary singer Rod Stewart will be sailing into Bristol this summer to perform in the West – for one night only.
As the Western Daily Press can exclusively reveal, tickets will be going on sale this morning for a concert on July 1st at Ashton Gate.
He becomes the latest in a long line of superstars to perform at Bristol City Football Club’s ground. Last year Sir Elton John played at Ashton Gate and on June 14th Bristol will welcome veteran singer Neil Diamond.
The Bristol concert has been added to the original dates of his sell-out whistle-stop tour of the UK so that Stewart can reach his legions of West fans.
Yesterday Richard Gould, Bristol City Football Club commercial manager, said: “It is another stellar name and it is a compliment to the South West that such artists want to come and perform here.
“Rod Stewart has already got a number of sell-out concerts in London, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow – and this is bringing him to the South West and a wider audience. He is coming to the fans so they don’t have to travel. He and his management were very keen to come to the region. I think Bristol has been selected because we have a proven track record of welcoming such huge stars.
“He recently played a concert in Napier (New Zealand) where there is a population of 50,000 – and 25,000 went to the concert.”
Phone lines are expected to get red-hot at Ashton Gate at 9am today, and tickets cost from £35 to £60.
Mr Gould said: “We sold more than 10,000 tickets in the first four days for the Neil Diamond concert and there are only 3,000 remaining which is a huge take-up. We are anticipating Rod Stewart will do just as well – if not even better.”
When Elton John played at Ashton Gate, 45,000 fans went wild with excitement. Now Rod Stewart is expected to have the same electrifying effect when he arrives in July, only a fortnight after Neil Diamond’s concert.
