ROD TAKES TIME OUT TO VISIT THE NVCI

Legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Rod Stewart Tours Nevada Cancer Institute Flagship Facility on 3rd Anniversary…

Rod Stewart and fiancée Penny Lancaster toured NVCI facility construction site in Summerlin 5th April, commemorating the Institute’s 3rd anniversary.

Heather Murren, president and CEO of NVCI and Nicholas Vogelzang, M.D., director of NVCI, accompanied Mr. Stewart and Ms. Lancaster on a tour of the four-story, 142,000-square-foot building, scheduled to open in late summer 2005. The NVCI has been designated as the official cancer institute of Nevada by the state Legislature and will be home to biomedical research, education, and multi-disciplinary patient care.

“With your support, we will advance the frontiers of cancer knowledge by providing world-class, research-linked cancer services to Nevadans and people throughout the southwest,” Murren said of Stewart’s committment to helping in the fight against cancer. Rod Stewart, a thyroid cancer survivor, has a history of support for The Nevada Cancer Institute. In November 2004, he performed at NVCI’s third-annual fundraising gala, Rock for the Cure: An Electric Garden Party. The event was NVCI’s most successful fundraiser to date, raising more than $3.8 million.
NVCI later presented Rod with a soccer jersey.

The NVCI flagship facility is located at Town Center Drive and Interstate 215 on five acres of land donated by The Howard Hughes Corporation/Rouse Company. Construction of the $50 million-plus facility began in January 2004. Outfitted with state-of-the-art technology for researching, diagnosing, and treating cancer, the building is uniquely designed to foster scientific research and discovery while maintaining the comfort of cancer patients and their families.
