ROD STEWART will be the first voice to speak on a new Scottish radio station.
The singer will launch 96.3 Rock Radio when it starts broadcasting in January 2007.
The station, which will broadcast across Renfrewshire and central Scotland on FM or digital, will replace Q96.
The station’s owners, Real Radio, have been given permission by industry regulators Ofcom to house the former Q96 within their headquarters in Glasgow.
Last night Real Radio’s managing director Billy Anderson said: “Rod was keen to be involved.
“He is so passionate about Scotland that he jumped at the chance to launch the station.
“We are the first rock station in Scotland and he wanted to be the guy to welcome us.
“He will open up the run of events on the station, before we launch into tracks by the likes of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Simple Minds.”
The station will play classic rock tracks from the past 40 years, with a bias towards 35 to 64-year-old men.
It will also continue to broadcast news and content for the Paisley and Renfrewshire area.
