Da Ya Think I’m Sexy 2023
A new unofficial re-mix of Rod’s 1979 monster hit has been posted on YouTube Da Ya Think I’m Sexy 2023 version by Mister Jorginho
Mister Jorginho says ‘I don’t create remixes or new versions to surpass the original versions. I don’t have this pretension, unlike some. The original version will always remain the best and most beautiful, like the great love of our life that we can never forget’.
This week’s Rod Art
This week we feature an artist we have featured many times in SMILER both on the website and in the printed magazine Ray Guselli, who does amazing smudge paintings

We have also used Ray’s work on presentations to both Rod and Penny and Ray has also donated many of his works of art to our charity events that Rod and Penny were more than happy to sign.
This is Ray’s latest version of Rod, and talking to SMILER this week about the inspiration for it he said “I actually wondered..How is Rod looking now..And I think this came up as a recent photo, I also enjoy working on Rod’s photos because he has such character and great hair to work with”

Rod and Bobby Charlton
This week Manchester United and England fans were paying tribute to World Cup winning footballing legend Sir Bobby Charlton who passed away aged 86, but did you know Rod once played in a match with Bobby?
Back in the mid-1970s Rod was invited to Dam Park, a Junior football ground in Ayr, for a charity match largely organised by former Rangers hero Johnny Hubbard, Rod was even forced to don the strip of Celtic’s deadly rivals Rangers thanks to a mistake by the Scottish Football Association.
The Scotland v England “old Boys” match at Dam Park featured England World Cup winner Bobby Charlton and also fellow World Cup winner Gordon Banks for the visitors and Billy McNeill, Jim Baxter and John Greig for Scotland. With the time ticking down to kick off though, England were suitably stripped for action while Scotland were still waiting for their kit to arrive.
When it became clear someone at the SFA had clearly forgotten to act on the memo, the Rangers contingent in the Scottish select made a hurried call to Ibrox and the Gers first team kit of the day was delivered in time for the start of play.

Rod was a late addition to the Scottish side in Ayrshire, flying up to Glasgow early morning or the previous night, and then hiding away in an Ayr plumber’s van, before going in a side entrance at Dam Park.
It must not have upset Rod too much though as he wore a Rangers shirt again in 1978 at Rangers legend John Greig’s testimonial in front of a crowd of over 65,000 and again in 1992 for a 5 a side tournement.
