Rod who was dressed as the Wolfie’s rascal wore a red velvet jacket with black lapels over a white shirt which he left unbuttoned at the collar. He added a tartan tie loose around his neck and he wore a pair of black trousers and red and gold shoes.

Penny looked stunning in a red dress that matched Rod’s jacket, that featured a thigh-high split.

Forever Young

https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1032830251392299

We have been reporting over the past few weeks about Daniel Grindstaff who teamed up with Paul Brewster and Dolly Parton on the stunning Bluegrass version of “Forever Young.” Its nostalgic lyrics are the driving force behind this reimagined version of Rod’s huge hit. Pairing that with the vocals of Brewster and Parton the result will leave you breathless..Daniel has now released a lyric video to go with it.

Bobby Charlton 2

Following our story of Rod playing in a football match with Sir Bobby Charlton the Warrington Guardian shared another memory

Sir Bobby, lived in Lymm Cheshire for a ten years and was the guest of honour at many presentation evenings and played in at least two charity football matches at Wilderspool.

One was held on Sunday, March 31, 1974 between the Warrington Lions Club and a Showbusiness XI and attracted a crowd of 6,000 people. The event raised £1,000 for local charities and the match ended in a 3-3 draw after it was abandoned six minutes from time.

That was the moment when Rod went down injured. That injury was the signal for dozens of teenage girls to race onto the pitch to try to help him.

The story was told in great detail in the following week’s Warrington Guardian on Friday, April 5.

The fun continued after the match with a social evening in the Wilderspool Leisure Centre when Ed “Stewpot” Stewart, the Radio One disc jockey, auctioned two footballs for the princely sum of £60!.

Let it …Thunder

Thunder will release a live album entitled ‘A Black Country Xmas’ on Friday 17th November 2023 via Dodgy Discs.

The 13-track CD album immortalises Thunder’s two sold-out Christmas shows at KK’s Steel Mill in Wolverhampton on 17th and 18th December 2021 and feature their cover of Rod’s hit ‘Sailing’

Thunder frontman and Planet Rock presenter Danny Bowes says of the release: “The Thunder 2021 Xmas shows at KK’s Steel Mill were recorded. At the time, it was thought the recordings had failed due to a “technical” fault (possibly alcohol related), but some clever technology has been employed recently, and we’re pleased to report that they’ve been recovered”.

It is not the first time Thunder have covered Rod the band released a cover version of ‘In A Broken Dream’ as a single in 1995.

This week’s Rod Art

This week’s Rod art is drawn by non other than Carmine Appice, to find out what’s going on see the story below..

The Drummer Men

Two ex RSG drumming legends Tony Brock and Carmine Appice have been in the news this week..

Tony with his latest band Call Me Cannon The band consists of Michael Fitzgerald, Jonathan Clark, and Tony Brock. Most of the songs on their first project “Better Late Than Never” were written by Michael in his early 20’s. Due to the pressing nature of career and family they were never recorded and released. Michael says, “For years, I thought they would never see the light of day. Then after working with Tony and Jonathan I decided it was time do what should have been done years ago. I decided to bring these songs to life and ultimately put them in a collection that would be called ‘Better Late Than Never.’ I feel so blessed to be able to work with such great and talented friends and to be a part of Call Me Cannon.”

SMILER members Maureen Gale and Barbara Holland were at two of the shows and Carmine signed their car dashboard and even drew a drum set and made this weeks Rod art.. How cool is that!

Maureen told SMILER “Rick and Carmine signed a poster of the Rod Experience that Barbara stole off the wall, but Carmine drew a mustache on Ricks face, the photo shows Carmine and Rick and laughing about it”.

Rod in Germany and much more..

Martin Heidt who runs the SMILER Twitter page has some news for fans of Rod

Martin, Rod and SMILER

‘I have created a new homepage and have given it the domain www.rodstewart.de. Not that I would presume to be an official site here. No, no – the work is far from being an official site. It is meant to be a mixture of neutral journalistic reporting and stories told through fan glasses. All in all, a site that pays tribute to Rod Stewart’s life’s work and allows everyone to look forward to and “prepare” for next year’s upcoming concerts from now on. The site will be online from November 11, maybe earlier. It has an English translation on which I have to work a bit more, but all in all I am ready to start soon. Here are some snippets of the content’

Album of the week: TIME – back to the roots

You should never say there’s nothing left for a man to do after publishing his autobiography. Rock star Rod Stewart is a prime example in this respect. In 2012, he published his autobiography with the simple title “Rod – the autobiography”… With Time, he presented one of the best and most emotional albums of his entire career in May 2013….

Rod Stewart: Concert history in Germany

As we all know, Rod Stewart began his unique career in the early 1960s thanks to the legendary Long John Baldry, who listened very carefully to a young man squatting on the floor at a grey and uncomfortable English railway station and passed the time waiting for the next train by singing a little. Baldry liked what the man was saying and brought him into his band. The rest is history, young Rod’s career was unstoppable from then on.

In the first few years, the gigs were limited to the United Kingdom and mainly to clubs and venues in the capital London, but it actually took around four years before Rod Stewart performed in other European countries for the first time…

When Georgie Boy really drove John Lennon up the wall

There is no doubt that ex-Beatle John Lennon, who would be 83 years old today, and Rod Stewart belong to the group of the greatest music stars this planet has ever seen. Both started their careers in the early 60s. One as part of the Beatles, who made music history until 1970 and beyond. The other performed with his discoverer Long John Baldry and the Hoochie Coochie Men and Steampacket, before later really taking off with the Faces and as a solo artist. Although their careers overlapped in some years, there was never any kind of collaboration between the ex-Beatle and Stewart…

Don’t Cry For Me Argentina – Rod Stewart moved to tears

Football, hits and plenty of emotion: Over 19,000 spectators celebrated a huge fiesta with superstar Rod Stewart and his band at the sold-out Estadio Geba in Buenos Aires. The audience in the Argentinian capital were of course treated to classics such as Maggie May, Baby Jane, Da Ya Think I’m Sexy and Sailing. The secret highlight of the evening, however, was an a capella version of the classic musical Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, performed by Stewart’s background singers…
