Vote Rod

The German radio station WDR4 from Cologne is looking for the greatest hits of the 1980s for a big weekend special in November. You can vote online for your three favourite hits from this decade and also win a travel voucher worth €1000.00.

The broadcaster has not announced how many songs will make it onto the big hit list. But a big radio special is planned from 20 to 23 November, which will also be broadcast via livestream. The grand finale will then even be shown on WDR television on 23 November.

WDR4 has announced that a total of 80 hours of hits from the 80s will be played over the weekend.

So, now it’s your turn: Vote Rod Stewart into the playlist and hopefully as high up as possible with numerous votes.

Faces Bootleg

The latest Faces bootleg to be released on vinyl ‘Faces – Live at Edmonton Sundown 1973’ has now come on sale but remember the band recieve nothing from these recordings unlike the ongoing official release project that SMILER is helping with.

SMILER has not heard this bootleg recording so can’t comment on the quality but the description from Rythm And Blues Records who have released the album is as follows

Eleven tracks recorded when the Faces were at the peak of their live prowess, and a fine document of Ronnie Lane’s last gigs with the band. The audience are completely engaged as the band achieve the perfect balance between Rod Stewart solo material and the Faces’ own barnstorming songs.
Excellent sound throughout, comes with extensive sleevenotes and full recording details

This Week’s Rod Art

We have not had any Rod art for a few weeks but this week we have not one but two stunning works by UK artist, musician and songwriter Greg Hart

First up is ROD STEWART- ‘Sailing’– This 30″ x 30″ deep box original artwork is hand painted in rich acrylics

Greg has also painted Ronnie Wood – Woody

Both these works of art are available to purchase now or you can buy 18″ x 12″ size prints for ÂŁ20

If you are interested please message Greg here for the details, each painting is ready to ship and comes with full Certificate of Authenticity.

Please visit: www.hartworksart.net for our full range of artworks and prints.

Greg’s recording career has consisted to date of over twenty released albums with various bands, numerous singles, videos, and live concerts all over Europe. He has written songs for some of the industry’s biggest names such as Donna Summer, Asia and Cher. His song writing partnership with 10cc’s Mick Wilson lead to the formation of his current band ‘CATS in SPACE’, who have enjoyed tremendous success with number one chart albums, poll winning awards in top leading rock magazines and touring on the biggest stages and arenas with acts like Deep Purple, Status Quo, Thunder & Blue Oyster Cult.

Greg began ‘Hartworks Art’ as a sideline in early 2004. A ‘trial’ canvas of Thin Lizzy frontman Philip Lynott painted in acrylics “just for fun” sold online inside a week, and was quickly followed by a similar painting but this time of Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley, who sold to the USA. It became clear that there was a demand for his style of ‘Pop art’. As he took a break from touring in 2007 Greg’s art took hold of every moment he had and with his own featured exhibitions in the UK, plus many Film & Memorabilia conventions, his catalogue grew to a staggering five hundred original art sales in under six years. He even managed to find time to open his own art gallery in Sussex which ran for several years before music once again came back into his life, so something had to give, and the art side swapped to a commission only basis and the gallery sadly closed.

In 2009 Greg was invited to be a featured artist at the ‘Philip Lynott Art Exhibition’ in Ireland and his work was purchased by none other than the late great front man’s mother Philomena Lynott, something that is still his proudest moment. His Thin Lizzy artworks remain to date his biggest success and they are owned by fans all over the world.

Greg told SMILER this week “Rod is one of the greatest British music icons ever, who’s timeless songs have inspired me both as a songwriter and also as an artist”
