Don’t Look Back in Anger
Noel Gallagher has told how he was left red-faced by Rod on his last visit to Parkhead. The Oasis star watched his team Manchester City play out a 3-3 draw in Glasgow as Pep Guardiola and then Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers went to battle in the Champions League back in 2016. Noel made the trip north along with Celtic fan and talkSPORT pundit Alan Brazil and the pair bumped into Rod in the boardroom.

Speaking to PubTalk, Noel smiled as he recalls the memorable meeting, saying: “I know Alan loves Rod. The last time I saw him is when City played Celtic in the Champions League at Celtic Park “Rod lost his jacket in the chairman’s lounge and accused me in front of a load of people. He was at the wind-up but he was like ‘have you got my jacket.’ I was like ‘Is it a three-quarter length chinchilla?’ Top man is Rod.”

This Weeks Rod Art
This week we feature an amazing oil painting by Suffolk based artist Leigh Hammett who was trying out a new oil paper..and wasn’t impressed with it .

Leigh commented that he was not impressed with the oil paper at the start of the project and it didn’t improve as the project went on but when SMILER asked what his inspiration was for the painting leigh said ‘why not he’s class’ and we think despite his paper problems he has done a class job as well!

Rod is providing support to Ukrainian family
It was revealed this week that Rod has rented and furnished a home for a family of seven Ukrainian refugees after feeling heartbroken watching the war against Russia unfold on the news.

“Words couldn’t describe what we were watching,” Rod told the The Daily Mirror “The bombing of innocent children, the bombing of hospitals and playgrounds. Like everyone else, we were completely beside ourselves. I don’t wish that on anyone. This is evil, pure evil.”
Rod is now providing support to Ukrainian couple Rostylsav and Olena and their five children aged between 17 and two, paying rent and bills for the Berkshire property for at least a year, according to the newspaper, The family, who arrived in the UK without speaking any English, are “lovely… so polite” and “all very grateful”, Rod said.
Rod also told The Daily Mirror “I usually keep all my charitable efforts nice and quiet and just do it. But I thought, ‘I am a knight, I have been given this knighthood because of the things I’ve achieved in my life and the charity work I’ve done over the years’.
“But that was the past; I want to be seen to be doing something now. I am a knight, I should be using my power to do something for people.
“I am sure that if there are people out there who see what I am doing, they will pick up some slack too.”
Rod was put in contact with Rostyslav and his family, as well as others who he has since given jobs to after sponsoring a mission ran by his sister Mary’s grandchildren Warren and Gavin in March https://www.rodstewartfanclub.com/news/rods-ukraine-appeal-shout-out-to-geewizz/?swcfpc=1
In a statement Olena and Rostyslav said: “Many thanks to Sir Rod Stewart, Warren Cady, his parents and their family for their openness and genuine and big hearts. Thanks to their sponsorship and Warren’s hard work, our children are now safe and able to learn normally in school.”
The Daily Mirror also reported that Rod plans to address the conflict in Ukraine as part of his UK tour, dedicating shows to the country and its people.

Rod’s Penny [Not that one!]
How about this for an amazing talent, Chris Eastwood from Yorkshire cuts pre decimal English coins by hand using nothing but a small drill and a jewellers saw and comes up with some superb results including this one of Rod

Chris told SMILER this week ‘I cut a Rod coin because I like his music and I found a good pattern that I could work from, I’ve cut lots of singers and musicians in the past and it seemed a good one to add to my collection The technique to make them is fairly simple as in I only use a tiny drill and a jewellers saw, a fair amount of skill also helps’

Chris has only been producing these maserpieces since 2018 but has cut some stunning designs including a brilliant Oasis, Definitely Maybe album cover, To check out his work and I promise you won’t be able to stop looking at them wondering how he manages to do it, Go to … https://www.instagram.com/artisan_craft_coins/?hl=en Or
