The Killing of Georgie Fame

Back in 1976 David Hamilton was one of the main presenters on the legendary music show Top of The Pops, he loved the job and made it a rule to never drink while working, the BBC loved David as mistakes in filming were very costly and he made very few.

In September 1976 Rod’s segment of The Killing Of Geogie was to close the showand David introduced it saying “Now on Top of the Pops this is Rod Stewart and The Killing of Georgie Fame” the filming stoped and the producer told David of his mistake David said sorry and again said “Now on Top of the Pops this is Rod Stewart and The Killing of Georgie Fame” David was confused and couldn’t understand what was going on , he managed to nail it at the third attempt but by now a lot of valuable time and tape had been wasted and it was the last time the now not so reliable David was asked to present the show.

Talking to SMILER this week David told us “I was known as One Take Hamilton but on this occasion I got it wrong twice and stood there feeling rather foolish. Some time later two blokes from a record company told me they had spiked my drink for a laugh.
Incidentally, I played football with Rod Stewart on occasions. I always tell people he was the best player in the Showbiz X1″.

Catch David weekday lunchtimes 12-2 on Boom Radio – and on Saturdays with his Million Sellers. ttps://www.boomradiouk.com/david-hamilton/
