Good Boys
A good start to the weekend..The Best of Faces Good Boys…When They’re Asleep made Rhino record of the day

When mod favorites The Small Faces took in Rod Stewart and Ron Wood and shortened their name, they became Britain’s most boisterous party band this side of The Rolling Stones. They cut four studio albums together before their new singer and guitarist were lured away, and the best of that output is gathered on Rhino’s 19-track collection GOOD BOYS⌠WHEN THEYâRE ASLEEP. From the full-throated rock of âStay With Meâ (the group’s biggest U.S. hit) to the rueful balladry of âOoh La Laâ plus a couple of rarities for good measure, it’s the definitive single volume Faces sampler. These working class heroes were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on this day in 2012, and one listen to GOOD BOYS⌠WHEN THEYâRE ASLEEP will tell you why.
Normal weekend in the UK
Meanwhile Rod and Penny who are now back in the UK spent Saturday night in Annabel’s members club MailOnline but Rod was still up next morning to give a tactics chat to young football team Takeley Hoops ahead of their match.

Captioning the photo, Rod wrote: “Extremely old rockstar gives last minute tactical team talk to his young Hoops side #upthehoops @takeleyfc.hoops.”
Red Rod
In his latest edition of Story Time with Sammy, Rocker Sammy Hagar told of his big fanboy moment with Rod.
“Have I ever been a fanboy? Me? Absolutely! If I would’ve ever seen Elvis, I would’ve gone crazy, but I was just really young then. I just remember I was always a Rod Stewart fan when I first started Montrose. I was playing in Europe, Montrose was on tour, and The Doobie Brothers were headlining Montrose’s opening. My drummer, Denny Carmasi, and I were staring at the side of the stage, watching The Doobie Brothers.
“And in walks Rod Stewart in a yellow suit, shiny, hair all spiked up. Britt Ekland was with him, and she was, like, you know, leopard skin. They were just superstars. They looked like the most charismatic superstars on the planet. They walked up next to us, and it was like â I couldn’t even go up and introduce myself. I was a fan, but he was so charismatic that I was just dwarfed.
“Denny and I looked at each other like, âLetâs get out of here, man! He might see us!â We were so intimidated. We didnât want to be around him. We thought he was going to ask us to go get him a coke or to take this coat and say, ‘Go hang it up for meâ or something.’
“Honestly, I’ve never been so starstruck in my life. I have met Rod since then. He’s always very charismatic. He’s always dressed to the nines. He’s got it, man. He’s a superstar, and he blew my mind.”

This weeks Rod Art
This week we feature this brilliant painting by self taught artist Gaven Alexander ‘Maggie May’ is part of Gaven’s Music Art

Each of Gaven’s art prints come with a sory , here is the story for this one
MAGGIE MAY
âMaggie Mayâ was a song released in 1971, written by Rod Stewart and Martin Quittenton about an encounter Stewart had 10 years earlier.
Originally released as a B-side track to âReason to Believeâ and at one point wasnât going to be released at all, even as an album track.
It wasnât until a DJ in America played the B-side track âMaggie Mayâ that it started to build momentum along with Rod Stewarts career. Taking it to the Number 1 spot in America leaving âReason To Believeâ trailing at number 65 in the charts. Eventually becoming number 1 in Britain as well.
The Intro to the song was written by Martin Quittenton a solo piece of music called âHenryâ The Mandolin solo at the end was played by Ray Jackson. Having been asked by Stewart to create a piece of music they could add to the end of the track creating more of a folk sound.
As a session musician Jackson was paid ÂŁ15 the going rate at the time. He was already at the studio, to record âMandolin Windâ for Stewart.
Jackson threatened legal action in the 1980âs over not being credited for the music he added to the song. But took it no further.
To add insult on Stewartâs album âEvery Picture Tells a Storyâ Stewart wrote a thank you saying
âThe Mandolin was played by the Mandolin player from Lindisfarne, the name slips my mindâ
And during a tv performance on the BBCâs Top of the Pops. Stewart used radio DJ, John Peel to mime the Mandolin sitting on a stool.
Professionally printed Giclee Prints are available on canvas and Archive Paper, measuring 14 inches square and available from

Finishing touches to the new album?
End Of An Era in Edinburgh

Rod told The Daily Record “It will feel emotional to retire from rock ‘n’ roll touring, I don’t know how I’m going to feel on the night but I’m sure the Edinburgh crowd will make me feel very much at home.
“It may get teary. I’m going to put in a few songs I haven’t done for a long time, like Wild Mountain Thyme.
“It feels like an end of an era. My father came from Leith so I’m going to dedicate the evening to him. I just hope it doesn’t rain like it did last time I was there.”
More wine for Ange

Rod could soon be sending more wine to Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou who is on course for a Treble in his second season in charge after delivering the Double 12 months ago.
And Rod admits Ange is already on his gift list after every major win with more rewards to follow if he sees off Michael Beale’s side in their mammoth Scottish Cup semi final and in the last Premiership encounter between the pair.
Speaking exclusively to The Daily Record, Rod said: “Every time they beat the Rangers, I send him a crate. This month I was so happy with the result, I sent him two crates. If Celtic beat them in the Scottish Cup semi-final and the last league game, I will flood his house with red wine. He’s just perfect and I hope he stays for a few more years.”
