Rod has missed the No. 1 spot in the USA Billboard charts by a whisker. ‘As Time Goes By – The Great American Songbook Volume II’ will enter the chart tomorrow at No. 2 with sales of 205,980. The No. 1 album by Clay Aiken held on to the top with sales of 207,671 – just 1,691 copies ahead of Rod.
USA Tower Records spokesman Kevin Hawkins commented: “Clay Aiken continued to see huge sales this week. But the Rod Stewart standards collection came on strong. After his Oprah appearance, sales exploded. We were forecasting it to do well, but this was way beyond any expectations.”
Meanwhile, last years album ‘It Had To Be You – The Great American Songbook’ is likely to leap up this weeks Billboard Charts from last weeks No. 95 to the mid-forties after selling almost 25,000 copies!
