A personal Radio2 In Concert review

From SMILER member Maggie Scahill

I had a great time and yes that was me Roxy getting a hug from Rod (can’t wait to see it).

Not much good at putting words to paper but hear goes. We arrived really early to suss out the venue and sort our tickets they were very helpful at the Beeb they gave us some blue stickers with numbers on and said to come back about 6ish. Now 6ish seems a long way off when it’s only 2.30 but off we go to have some grub and some wine(will I be able to eat!)

We arrived back about 5.30 couldn’t wait any longer, went through security and into their cafe.It seemed like an age sitting there, I was getting excited, butterflies in the old tum you know the feeling girls! at 7.30 the lady says anyone with red stickers 1-50 come to the door, then anyone with blue stickers was there like a shot through the theatre doors down the front at the barrier.

What an intimate venue my heart is thumping and Rods not even on the stage yet. There was a camerman on the other side of the barrier he said he would try not to get in our way(what a nice man!). Before I know it the band are on the stage and I can see Rod coming through the door at the back of the stage now I’m in heaven there’s our man just in front of me! I am not gonna list the set you all know it!

Can’t stop me now was great sang all the way through just like we do to the oldies. Rod looked great and sounded really good at some points I wished the band hadn’t been so loud so that we could hear Rod more but hey I’m not complaining I had the time of my life!! 6 songs from the new album they were all superb and I was happy with the oldies. When he sang Sweel little Rock n’Roller I was thining of Dom it was great. Sexual Religion is my favorite at the memoment I was so glad he sang it. Rod came to our side at one point (can’t remember during what number)I blew him a kiss and he blew me one back, hope it’s onrecording! At the end when I bekoned him down and he gave me a hug I thought please let this be on camera so everybody will believe me, heaven hear I am.

Anyway folks told you not to expect too much from my writing but at least you all got the gist and you saw it for yourselves on TV,and YES I wore my SMLER badges with pride.
Love you all Maggie x
